Self-Discipline


When we make up our minds to change something in our lives, that change can only come about by using our self-restraint to form a new habit. A habit is formed by doing the same thing over and over for 30 days without interruption. After 30 days, it will be difficult to NOT do the new habit. Our new mindset must override the old with a fortitude that many of us have difficulty finding the stability and insight into our true nature to do. It’s not easy. Take it one day at a time.

We gain a better understanding of ourselves as we slowly persevere day after day and literally force ourselves do what has been so difficult for so long. Sometimes we must do this new habit very soon after we get up in the morning. That will mean possibly getting up earlier to allow for the time it takes to do it. Changing our lifestyle to create other changes is not always easy. Finding the self-control to make those changes is more than worth the effort. Willpower was the “old-fashioned” way of saying we had self-discipline. No matter what it’s called, self-discipline is worth the effort.

The true purpose of discipline is to FREE us---not to ENSLAVE US. That freedom and feeling of pride on the inside is worth all the effort. Changing our ways and creating a new mindset allows us to gain that freedom as well. If we ask God for guidance and guardianship when we feel weak and as though we just cannot go on, He will make the process much easier for you.
